Itinerary Details

Day 1 :From Moshi to Londrossi Gate at 2250 meters to the Mti Mkubwa Camp at 2780 meters

After your morning meal, you will be chauffeured to the Londorossi Gate, which is approximately a 3-hour drive away from your lodging. Following the completion of all entry procedures and a final 15 km journey on a rough road, you will arrive at the starting point on the fringe of the Montana forest. Prior to embarking on the path through the rainforest, you will enjoy a lunch break. The hike for today is relatively brief, lasting about 3 hours, unlike the forthcoming days, allowing you ample time to appreciate the ever-changing lush surroundings as you ascend. Keep an eye out for white and black colobus monkeys perched in the treetops above you. Distance: 4.8km (3 mi) Time: 3-4 hours Habitat: Rainforest The expedition commences.

Embark on your journey by strolling through the winding path within the lush rainforest. Notice how the greenery gradually thins out until you reach a vast expanse of moorland adorned with Lobelia and Erica flora. Traverse the gentle slopes as you make your way towards Shira 1 Camp, a trek that typically takes around 4 hours. As you settle into your campsite, marvel at the panoramic view of the Shira Plateau and catch a glimpse of the majestic snow-capped peak of Kibo. Conclude your day with a satisfying dinner and a peaceful moment under the twinkling night sky. Distance Covered: 8.5km (5.3 mi) Duration: 5-7 hours Ecosystem: Moorland

Following a delightful breakfast, your journey will take you across Shira Ridge, characterized by its rugged terrain, sparse grass, and shrubbery. As you trek, you’ll notice that the path is notably flatter compared to the previous day, making for a more relaxed and enjoyable hike. Along the way, you’ll be treated to stunning vistas of the Great Rift Valley and Mount Meru. The landscape will still be adorned with the striking and unique Giant Lobelias. Walking on ground once touched by lava, you’ll reach Shira 2 Camp, where a warm dinner and overnight accommodations await you.Distance covered: 5.5km (3.4 mi)Duration: 3-4 hoursEnvironment: Semi-desert.

Following your morning meal, you will embark on your journey towards Lava Tower, navigating a landscape scattered with boulders. In the distance, the sight of Kibo peak will motivate you to continue your uphill trek. As you near Lava Tower, situated at an elevation of 4,640 meters above sea level, you will pause for a leisurely lunch break to acclimate your body to the higher altitude. After about an hour, you will descend towards Barranco Camp. This method of hiking at higher altitudes but resting at lower ones aids in the acclimatization process and offers insight into how your body responds to changes in elevation. Along the trail, the scenery transforms once again, enveloping you in a setting adorned with Senecio kilimanjari and the smaller Lobelia deckenii plants.Distance Covered: 12km (7.5 mi)Estimated Duration: 5-7 hoursHabitat Type: Semi-desert.

Embarking on the barranco wall climb is an exhilarating experience. While scaling this wall, you may encounter sections that demand technical climbing skills, as well as areas where using your hands for a better grip is essential for progress. Your guide will be there every step of the way to assist you during the ascent. Once you navigate around the Kissing Rock, the journey continues along the mountain ridge and through the picturesque Karanga Valley. Passing by the final water point, you will eventually reach Karanga Camp after approximately 4 hours of trekking.Distance Covered: 5.2km (3.2 mi)Duration: 3-4 hoursEcosystem: Alpine DesertThe adventure unfolds as the trek presses on.

As the clock strikes midnight, you will rouse from your slumber and complete the preparation of your summit equipment. A serving of steaming hot tea or coffee along with some biscuits will be provided to help you gear up for the summit. Your journey will commence with an ascent in a northwest direction over rugged scree towards Stella Point, a trek that will take approximately 5 hours. Upon reaching Stella Point, you can take a moment to rest if needed, before embarking on a final hour-long climb along the rim of the crater to Uhuru Peak — the pinnacle of your adventure. Standing at the Roof of Africa, you will be met with a breathtaking panoramic view. Capture as many memories as you desire before bidding farewell to the shimmering glaciers and snow-covered peaks, and descending back to Barafu Camp. Once back at Barafu Camp, you can take a moment to relax before continuing your descent to Mweka Camp at 3,080 meters, a journey that will take around 4 hours.

Start your day with breakfast and a special ceremony held by the mountain crew before embarking on your descent to Mweka Gate. The leisurely 3-hour walk will guide you through the lush rainforest, where you can spot the unique Impatiens Kilimanjari flower. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, your designated driver will be ready to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi. Descend to Mweka Gate at the base of Kilimanjaro (1650m) to wrap up your journey.
